Whiteboard Wednesday Ep. 26: Dealing With Failure

On today’s Whiteboard Wednesday, Randy talks about what it means to be human. Everyone goes through a series of successes and failures throughout life. We’ve all failed, but what really matters is how you get back up and keep going. The first step is changing your mindset about failure. Take a listen!

What it Means to Be a Failure

The most important part of failing is the lesson behind it. It’s important to remember that sometimes you are going to be successful and sometimes you are going to learn. You are your own worst critic and your own best motivator to succeed. Choose to look at your failures as lessons to learn from and get back up to try again!

Coping With Failure

Still, failing stinks. But don’t forget, you wouldn’t be where you are today without all of your failures and successes alike. Here are some tips to coping with failure:

  • Own up to your mistakes
  • Don’t beat yourself up
  • Look at failure as a step forward, not a step back
  • Remember your goals

Our Personal Resources For Coping With Failure

The Twelfth Angel

The Twelfth Angel, a self-help book, dives deep into dealing with death, grief, and puts new understanding into the meaning of life. When John Harding lost everything he had worked for – his wife, son, and career, he began having a hard time knowing how to keep going. When he is offered a position to manage “The Angels,” a little league baseball team, in his hometown, he finds friendship and hope as he gets to know one boy who reminds him of his son.

Remember, you are never stuck. There is always a light at the end of the tunnel, regardless of the cards you’re handed in life or the hundreds of times you’ve failed, get back up and keep going.

So you made a mistake. Now what? There are very few mistakes that you can not recover from and which you will improve from in your life at least 2x over. However, there are some things that you can not undo. There are mistakes that will affect and weigh on you for the rest of your life. So think, and be mindful, of what you’re doing when you’re doing it. Recover. Learn. Move.

Together these videos are only 8 minutes, but we believe the principles you will carry for the rest of your life.
